The Glenorchy Centre is particuarly well suited as a cost-effective base for large family groups to explore the south of the Peak District, with self-catering facilities and a range of local facilities.

Wirksworth has plenty of facilities for all the family, including a library, outdoor activities, museums, leisure centres and several local railways - see the links to the right and the other 'ideal for' pages.

Local shops sell a good range of food, including fresh bread, local meat, organic and FairTrade produce. If you don't want to cook for yourself all the time there is a range of local cafes and restaurants. Other shops include clothing, arts and crafts, a second-hand bookshop and an old-fashioned sweet shop. The town has a doctors surgery and two pharmacies.

If the weather is bad, the snooker table, table-tennis table, DVD player and games provide indoor activities and the stage gives an excuse to put on a family show.
